Editor's Choice Game - Intellivision Plug n Play 2nd Edition

July, 2006 – Okay, so you were a child of the 80's and every night after dinner you and your Dad or older brother would guide your little pixilated warrior through the perils of the Intellivision video games. Long before thousand of people could kill each other simultaneously online, before manic blue hedgehogs could zoom through the land collecting a fortune in coins, and even before 2 strange little Italians in overalls got their kicks from squishing evil eyed little mushrooms, your little Intellivision hero found his way through deadly underground caves, strange black spacescapes, and dozens of tiny sporting arenas. Together you battled equally pixilated vicious dragons, invading aliens, and opposing athletes.

You can relive those days of early video gaming with the brand new Intellivision Video Game System 2nd Edition (Retail $12.99), from Techno Source, a Plug and Play controller that contains 10 classic games. You needn't load software. There is no complicated set up. Just plug the game controller into your television's AV IN jacks and away you go, transported into the cutting edge technology of the 1980's. The controller is a standard modern handheld gamepad, with a directional pad and AB, XY control buttons. Not very nostalgic, but far easier to use than the original rectangular gamepad, with the funny little metal disc and the side buttons. The 1st Edition brought you such classics as Night Stalker, Skiing, Snafu, and Astrosmash and the 2nd Edition follows up with Deadly Discs, Crown of Kings, Space Armada 2, Astrosmash 2, and more. Still missing from this collection are some of my favorites like Dungeons and Dragons, Pitfall, and Burger Time, but here's hoping for the 3rd Edition to come out soon.

I don't know what it is, but there is something about the simple pleasure of pixilated graphics and tinny electronic beeping sound effects that can't be beat by all of the new high tech, 3D, mega player, VR, next generation games of today. There has always remained a special place in my heart for Intellivision, and I imagine it will still be there far into the future, especially if Techno Source keeps providing us with new ways to play the old classics. Go grab yours today, because with the Intellivision Plug and Play 2nd Edition, you really can relive the past.
