The latest tips, trends, and reviews on videogames

November 12, 2004 – In just over a year since they made their
debut, sales of "Plug N Play" video
games - self-contained game controllers that
plug into the audio/video slots of any TV -
have become this holiday's must have, exceeded
the expectations of at least two major makers
of "Plug N Play" games.
"It's a simple, all-in-one, self-contained
system at an affordable price point," says
Eric Levin, executive vice president of Techno
Source, makers of the "Intellivision 25"
and "Crayola Plug N Play" games.
Rival Jakks TV Games - maker of retro-styled
controllers featuring Atari 2600 games and versions
of arcade hits like "Ms. Pacman" - credit
their success in part to expanding their market.
"Our games are available at Bed Bath
& Beyond and Linens 'n Things," Jakks
TV Games director of marketing Anson Sowby says.
"We're available outside of the video game
aisle of the toy story and moms and grandmothers
are picking these up."
Success also breeds competition. Look for
Techno Source and Jakks TV Games, as well as
"Plug N Play" games from Majesco ("Frogger")
and Radica (EA Big's SSX snowboard simulator)
to top many a holiday gift wishlists this year. |
